(The layer of shells above and below the bones allow specialists to determine how old they are.  Since the bones are fossilized there is nothing organic to test:  they are, for all intents and purposes, stone.  A long view of climate change in San Diego, and some perspective.  Note that the same type of mammoth, rabbit bones, and shells (and evidence of a different climate) have also been found at the La Brea Tar Pits.)
